Work Session: Project Development
The MRC will hold a work session on February 24th for the Committee to develop projects planned for 2025 - 2027.
February 24th, 4-7pm
Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, Eagle's Nest conference room (401 E 1st St, Port Angeles)
Snacks provided for a short break in the project discussion.
Zoom will not be an option for this meeting, due to the offsite location and the dynamic nature of the meeting.

Volunteer Planting at Ediz Hook
The Clallam Marine Resources Committee, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Clallam Conservation District are teaming up again this year to improve the nearshore habitat on Ediz Hook. Volunteers are needed to help plant 3,500 bareroot native beach plants.
This planting is part of a large restoration project the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe completed in 2021 that involved removing piers and shoreline armoring such as concrete, riprap and metal, and replacing it with logs and clean beach sand and native coastal plants. The area has been planted before, so this will be the second round of enhancement planting in order to fill in gaps. The ultimate goal of this project is to improve habitat for forage fish and marine birds, as well as create recreation opportunities.
LOCATION: Ediz Hook in Port Angeles, WA
DATE/TIME: March 6 (Thursday) from 1:00PM - 3:00PM. MRC members could also assist with the morning shift, helping groups of local 5th graders with their planting. Please reach out to Rebecca if you would like to participate as an MRC member.

Please bring gloves, raingear, and a shovel or other planting tool if you have one available. There will be limited shovels on hand for volunteers unable to bring one.

Forage Fish Sampling Training
WDFW will be hosting a forage fish sampling training in Longbranch, WA on March 18th. Start time has not been fully confirmed, but will likely begin at 09:30 or 10am and end around 4pm.
Please let Cathy and Amelia know if you plan to attend, as WDFW needs to coordinate the amount of supplies available. Precise location and timing details available by email from Cathy or Amelia.

Oiled Wildlife Response & HAZWOPER Refresher Training
International Bird Rescue is presenting a two-day Advanced Oiled Wildlife Response Training that will also serve as an 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher course for those that hold a 24-hour HAZWOPER certification.
The training is being hosted by Clallam County Marine Resources Committee and provided to you at no cost. Must be 18+ years old.
When: April 14th & 15th, 2025
Time: 8am - 5pm daily
